KIPP Family Note 08.03.2020

Posted On: August 4, 2020

Hello KIPP Philadelphia Families:

This week we welcome back teachers to begin the 2020-2021 school year. We are excited to plan and prepare to be with our KIPPsters soon. Even in a pandemic, there is great joy in knowing that teachers will be able to teach and connect with students and their families again. Unfortunately, our joy has been overshadowed with heartbreaking news that a KIPPster has passed away due to the senseless act of gun violence. Zamar Jones, rising 2nd grader at KPEA was critically injured while playing outside of his house with his friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Zamar’s family, his KPEA family and friends.

First Day of School Reminder:
The first day of school is just around the corner.  Students return to school on Monday, August 24th. We have decided to align with the School District of Philadelphia, 100% of academic programming will be online through the first report period ending November 30, 2020.  Assuming it is safe to do so, we intend to implement our hybrid plan beginning December 1, 2020.

Chromebook and Supply Distribution:
Please be on the lookout for communication about date and time you will be asked to pick up a KIPP Philadelphia Chromebook and other supplies.  All students are eligible to receive a Chromebook loaner for the 20-21 school year.  If you were given a Chromebook in March and need a new one, you will be able to swap out the old loaner for a newer one.

Virtual Learning Survey:
Last week, we sent out a survey regarding virtual learning.  Please complete the survey, we need to know your computer technology and internet needs.  You can find the survey HERE

Family Resources:
We understand this is a challenging time for families and students, navigating virtual school and community closures in light of COVID-19.  KIPP Philadelphia is dedicated to continuing to support student’s academic and social needs this summer and the academic school year. To help support students’ social development and emotional health at home, KIPP Social Workers have created this resource library HERE

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s principal. We look forward to seeing you soon.
